Amended 4 March 2023 – inc. Confirmation of Google Maps Outbound Route
If you haven’t got plans for the Canberra Day long weekend, then why not join the Club for a weekend in the Mudgee Region, staying in the Rylstone area, NSW (https://www.visitmudgeeregion.com.au/local-experiences/towns-and-villages/).
Outbound on the Saturday, returning on the Monday, with a day free for exploring depending on what suits you, e.g.:
- Bylong Valley (Bylong Valley Way - now open to light traffic, with some unsealed sections (roadworks) on the Kandos side (as at 12.1.23));
- Hill End, Gulgong, Kandos, Mudgee etc.;
- vineyards and wineries; or
- if you need a spell off the bike, 9 or 18 holes of golf at Henbury Golf Course, Kandos (buggies and clubs for hire).
Those short on time are welcome to join for a day ride or for one night rather than two.
Accommodation – book your own accommodation directly, depending on your preference for 1 or 2 nights, or for pub, motel or camping (it’s a popular area so consider booking early), e.g.:
- Rylstone:
-
- Kandos (7km from Rylstone):
-
Outbound: Google Maps via Gunning, Crookwell (coffee at Matt’s Bakery Cafe), Tuena, Trunkey Creek, Hobbys Yards to Blayney (Royal Hotel for lunch @12:45) and then on through Bathurst, Sofala (Royal Hotel rest stop if needed), Ilford and Kandos to Rylstone (375km).
Return options - each to their own/to be decided on the day, e.g.:
Approximately 400 km each way on sealed main and secondary roads (but expect damaged road surfaces).
Meeting Point: Either make your own way to Rylstone, or meet fuelled and ready to go at the Red Rooster QBN carpark (Bungendore Rd) for a prompt 08:45 departure.
GS Riders: For those keen on a gravel/dirt ride, you’re more than welcome to join us en route, or at Rylstone/Kandos.
Fuel: Available in Crookwell, Blayney, Bathurst, Kandos and Rylstone.
Register if you're interested in coming so I can let the Pub know likely numbers for lunch.
Please email rides@bmwmcc.au if you plan to meet the group on the way, or at Rylstone/Kandos, so we don’t wait for you unnecessarily. For those joining the ride along the way, or making their own way to Rylstone, proposed meeting points (with best guess times) are:
- Red Rooster (3 Bungendore Rd, QBN) - leaving 8:45
- Matt’s Bakery Cafe (152 Goulburn St, Crookwell) - arriving 10:15, leaving by 11:00 (coffee/rest stop)
- Royal Hotel (59 Adelaide St, Blayney) - arriving 12:40 (lunch booking @12:45), leaving by 14:00
