Updated 5/03/2025 – GS day ride is on; however, overnight camping option is cancelled due to forecast inclement weather

Updated 23/02/2025 to include GS overnight camping option and TS routes to brewery

Keen for an easy GS Saturday ride (if it’s dry!)? Then why not join the Club on gravel/dirt roads through Hilltops farmlands for lunch, on a farm, by the creek, at Bulla Creek Brewing Co. (approx. 330 km return)? https://bullacreekbrewing.com.au/

If a shorter ride on tar’s more your thing, then why not join for the first leg through to Boorowa for coffee (200 km return)?

Outbound: Ex. Ampol/Caltex Foodary, Gold Creek (Nicholls) to Boorowa (coffee), then Murringo Rd (sealed) to Murringo, picking up gravel/dirt roads from Belowra Rd and onto Robinsons Rd, Monteagle Stock Rd East and then Jerrybang Lane to the Brewery (161km (35km dirt)): Google Maps

Return: Rosewood Lane, Iandra Rd (sealed), Scenic Road, Tout’s Lookout and Taylors Rd through to Bendick Murrell, picking up sealed roads home via Chews Lane, Murringo Gap Rd to Boorowa and then onto Canberra (169km (19km dirt)): Google Maps Note: Avoid Rosewood Lane in wet weather - bog hole terrain (ok if dry)!

Approximately 330 km return on a mix of sealed main/secondary roads and gravel/dirt roads.

TS Riders: You’re welcome to join us at the brewery for lunch if you don’t mind Jerrybang Lane and its 9km stretch of decent gravel/dirt, mostly level with a couple of bends (not tight) and a couple of slight inclines (all other roads are sealed):

  • Murringo Rd to Young, Olympic Hwy, Scenic Rd to Monteagle, then Jerrybang Lane to Bulla Creek Brewing Co (172km):  Google Maps
  • An alternative is to come into the brewery via the straighter and flatter end of JB Lane (9km of gravel again), accessed via Henry Lawson Way (185 km): Google Maps

Fuel: Available in Boorowa and Young.

Meeting Point: Meet fuelled and ready to go at the Ampol/Caltex Foodary, Gold Creek (Nicholls) for a prompt 08:50 departure.

Register if you're interested in coming so I can let the Brewery know likely numbers for lunch (noting the current booking’s for 8 (it’s a smaller venue). Please email rides@bmwmcc.au if you plan to meet the group on the way or at the Brewery, or head elsewhere after coffee in Boorowa.

For those joining the ride along the way, or making their own way to the Brewery, proposed meeting points (with best guess times) are:

  • Ampol/Caltex Foodary, Gold Creek (Nicholls) - leaving 08:50;
  • Boorowa Bakery (or similar cafe), Marsden St, Boorowa (coffee stop) – arriving 10:00, leaving by 10:40; and
  • Bulla Creek Brewing Co., 820 Jerrybang Lane, Monteagle - arriving 11:50 (lunch booking @12:00).

GS Overnight Camping Option (Ride Ranking GS3):

Keen for a bit more adventure after lunch and a night bush camping on Lake Wyangala’s Northern shores? Then join the overnighters for a GS ride through to Quartpot Campground - outbound to Cowra, then onto Mount McDonald Cemetery, Elliots Lookout, Helim Standing Stones and Tanisa Pools (117 km): Google Maps

Notes - Quartpot Campground:

  • The campground has no facilities and the access road in has causeways in variable condition. It’s not clear if there’s a $10 fee/person/night.
  • Riders need to be fully self-sufficient if staying here (inc. drinking water and food), so for those who travel light, factor in a supply shop-stop in Cowra.
  • Back-up plan (e.g. inclement weather, access problems etc.) – Reflections Wyangala Waters Holiday Park - $34/unpowered site (≤6 people, includes facilities).

Return: via Hovells Creek, Reids Flat, Taylors Flat, Rye Park, Laverstock, Yass, Yass River Road to Gundaroo (210 km) and then each to their own for the last home leg:

Google Maps

Cheers

Karen
